I just love this 1974-D Eisenhower dollar from a mixed lot on ebay...nice blue toning, and stunning die polish lines on a early strike, with super-crisp details...sometimes I wonder if the proof dies were recycled to make business strikes as this, as the "look" is proof-like..or, in reverse, proof planchets used on business strikes, as on some 1971-D issues.

I am sure jbuck will be along to add his drool too. ;)

I would say more likely that impaired proof planchets would be the answer. I believe that was a practice into the 80's (though I could be remembering wrong).

Very beautiful coin. Free of many of the imperfections that are common with IKE business strikes. Would make nice addition to any collection.

Reusing proof dies would result in a "D over S" mint-mark. Proof planchets, on the other hand, I can imagine.
