Were these minted in massive quantities? There seems to be loads of these 200+ year old coins on ebay in various conditions.

Many of them are worn almost smooth so I imagine they're pretty worthless but what's a good price to expect for a VF example?

Good edges are also important as they were easily damaged if dropped.
High grade with good rims go for a lot of money.

I might be thinking of something else but I think they continued to be minted after 1797.

Agree, the edges are very important. Also there seem to be many more better grade 2d than pennies available.
