Help With 2009 Cent Error ID - Coin Community Forum

coinaki Valued Member United States 207 Posts	Posted 04/04/2013 12:49 am Greetings, folks... A newbie collector here, got into coin collecting (especially Cents)about 2 months ago. There's something about bright, full of luster, "gold-shining" Lincolns that seems to attract my eye. Could someone please help me in identifying this type of error/damage of the following 2009-P "Formative Years" Cent. I recently bought a few fresh rolls of the different 2009 designs and came across this particular one: I know I've seen similar such types on the web before, but I just can't seem to find any now. coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 04/04/2013 01:01 am Sometimes you can find a clear grease next to the rim area. It can be removed with a toothpick. But your coin appears to be damaged. Report this Post to the Staff

This being an uncirculated coin, I figured maybe it was a die-induced error. So then I guess this is categorized as nothing but coin damage. Thanks, Bill Report this Post to the Staff

I found it not that long ago, and I figured out that the coin had holes- but from rot! And back then I thought I had a great error! I just had a penny with holes rotted through it.... After searching around the net I am 95.4% certain that it's probably a delamination error. When I removed the coin from the roll the missing flake was still resting on the damaged area, and upon closer inspection I accidently nudged the coin and the flake fell on the floor and lost it (the flake, not my mind).
