Stumbled on this today in a box of mixed Canadian.

Any of you experts out there want to confirm if its a standard narrow 9 or not?

Grade opinions?

You have some of the markers visible for a fairly valuable 1859 cent. The photos are not clear enough to be sure. Here is a link showing what to look for inside the top of the 9. http://www.vickycents.com/rev-e32c.html

If that is what you have it is known in Charlton Catalog as DP9#5 and is very hard to find. ed

Wow! Great catch Ed and one more example of why this is the best coin collector site on the planet.

Here are some better pics and in fact the loop in the nine is clearly an example of the category you call out. Where would one get a hint as to value on this piece so I can oonsider if its worth slabbing.

A scarce coin, PCGS does recognize this variety I believe, if you specify it as a DP9 #5. Both Canadian certification companies will recognize this one, as well... at the grade of your coin, probably somewhere around the ballpark of $300, depending on demand...

http://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins...nt-1858-1859 gives $500 as a list price for the variety as VF20. As SPP-Ottawa says, you should be able to pocket $300 for it easily and quite possibly more.
