Looks to be a clash as opposed to PMD. The impression is in the fields while the letters/devices are still raised to the proper tolerances.

The ends look ragged a bit, I would say a curved lamination peel, or possibly struck through wire (which is no longer retained)? Maybe bring this one to the coin club meeting, so we can look at it in hand...
