Its a very abstract coin - they only minted a few types and they all have this kind of thing going on. Ill post the whole thing - as if it will help. I originally thought this was just a load of quiggles until I researched the type.

The guy did indeed step foot in Sri Lanka - unfortunatetly, while he was there, he laid waste to the ancient city of Anuradhapura (A city older than Rome) destroying so much that it was abandoned for the first time in nearly 2000 years.

I don't have any reference material on these types of coins. I can't even make a guess.

Hum the Cholans were in south India and frequent Sri Lanka, with a few expansive kings. I know the name of only one Rajaraja "the Cholan" .

You got it! Raja Raja Chola - 'The Octopus King' hes often called because it looks like he has 6 legs. Heres a diagram to show whats king and whats seat. One side is 'Seated King' and the other 'standing king'. As you can see, the reverse is a much messier affair. Heres a diagram showing seated king vs seat. Mine has been worn down and so it only seems to have 5 legs. These coins are dirt cheap - only a few quid for a nicer example than mine.

Ah "a quid" a single British pound sterling, 1 euro or an Irish pound. I never heard that before. The equivalent of our "buck." Interesting!
