Please check this image of the plur in E Pluribus Unum on a new Hawaii Volcanoes quarter. There is solid doubling in the L and U. It is not in the adjoining letters, and it is not shelf doubling, or Die Deterioration. So... what is it?
I have attempted to take better pictures, but have two problems: In edit mode, though I press "upload image", it will not do it. The other I can tell you. I checked three other Hawaii quarters, and none have the doubling . Also, I can see that you are fooled by the light. There is absolutely no doubling, shelf, flat, machine or other. All of the quarters are struck perfectly. I am using a stereo microscope at 15 power. The ONLY doubling is in the areas that show very well - just above the bottom of the L and the U. It is hard to see that it is raised in 2 D. As I said, I have more pictures, but can't figure how to post them consistently. Should I just do it in a new topic?

I find this coin very interesting. If you could get more images rotated in normal view, I would like to see them. Also back off a little in power. The image is too close, but I think I see something in a different area. Also if you could take matching images of a normal coin that would help. A side by side image may be helpful.

The fields on this type of doubling are not flat and don't go towards the rim I'm sure if he can get clearer pics that will be better.

That is a great pic, just try to remember to put a pic of the entire coin front and back and of the areas of question. The more pics the better someone may be able to help out!
