An IP ban means nothing when most people use dynamic IP's. What I don't get is the money trail. Are these people establishing new bank accounts, and new Paypal accounts, for each new identity? It would be the only way to proceed cleanly; otherwise, ebay is really falling down on the job.

Ive never understood the money end game part of it either. I could see the new accounts using a spouse or something for a new paypal which would be my best guess. That could also be a place ebay needs to tighten up and is dropping the ball. The one I really cant figure out if when you see the new accounts selling items that dont exist. Paypal is supposed to withhold funds for a time for new users, how is it that they expect to walk away with any money from the scams? Are they just banking on trying to delay the claim until the money has cleared or have they figured out an end around.

Setting up these accounts is very little work and zero investment. Perhaps it's easier to create new bank accounts in China than it is in the US. And also perhaps we're not dealing with the sharpest knives in the drawer, here.

There are some excellent points made. I think the 'key' thing is that there are far too many listings/sellers for ebay to possibly police them all. It therefore must be up to us, and other ebay coin experts, to help police ebay and report.......If we don't, who will? The only real beef I have with ebay is the protection of the 'big' ebay scam sellers. They seem to get a pass. It took almost 3 years to to get rid of the crook 'estatedoctor' aka Jim Donnelley. It took 2 years to get rid of the crook 'neyronix' aka Robert Hughes. The evidence was overwhelming on these crooks, yet, ebay was very slow on acting.

Quote: An IP ban means nothing when most people use dynamic IP's. Yes, 99% of the residential business is on a dynamic IP. With that said, the IP hardly ever changes for the end user. I have had DSL now for over 5 years and my IP has never changed since inception. Routers always keep the first three Octets of the IP address which is what most people use to monitor/ban/delete users with. An easier approach and more explainable is a product called "Hide My IP". It broadcasts and entirely different IP than what is assigned to your machine, that is probably how they are getting by the IP check.

Being new to the whole coin collecting world, I find myself amazed how you guys are so good at tracking coins and knowing whos up to dishonest practices. Makes for great reading. I hope I can do that some day. I cant even identify coins or know there names. Ie "has a lady on front and eagle on back". I'm almost embarrassed to be on here lol

This is a scary but interesting read. I wonder how long it will take to have more crooks on ebay than honest, reliable sellers.

ebay sees a new Seller as an addition to the revenue stream. They watch them a little close for a while and then turn them loose. That's when the real scamming starts. A more recent one, from the same general location in Illinois, was "tomcassata". That one was approaching 100k$ the last time I looked and they still hadn't NARU'd the ID!

It's very easy to get a new IP via the web sites that sell static IPs. Many give free seven day trials or charge $5 for a short term use of the new IP. Scammers can take advantage of these and keep switching their IP for free or a small fee.

That fact that she's back is bad enough, but, she makes no mention of the known defects on any of her crack-outs......Here's the ultimate kicker: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Gold-coin-c...047675.l2557she sold all of these crack-outs previously to her SHILL bidding account, 1***s( 721). How do I know that's her shill account......simple, the 30 day summary shows that shill account not only won this listing, but, 4 other listings of hers, but, there was no feedback left and all have been relisted......what a piece of......
