G Day there, All most finished going through 1 security bag. But this one got my eye. I have not seen this before, or even know the name of the variety? Can someone please enlighten me on this coin? Any knowledge is good.

Doubling is extremely common on 2001 50c. Having said that your coins is the most severe case I seen. The coin is possibly struck multiple times. Clearer pics would be good.

I usually gauge the severity by the size of the centre hole (or lack thereof) in the final A of Australia. It almost closes completely in some.

As Enworb's mentioned, they are quite common with the 2001 Federation 50c.

The term I'm familiar with in regard to this variety is machine die doubling, and as others have pointed out, it is quite common in varying degrees on the right-hand side of 2001 Federation 50's.

Your specimen is definitely an extreme example, and if I found one in such a condition, I would be keeping it...

My understanding of Machine Doubling is that it occurs through the slipping of a die, usually the die on top as that is the one that moved. To me yours looks like its been struck multiple times rather thn once where the die has slipped a little. A definite keeper IMO.

Thanks Enworb, Do you think it was struck 2 or 3 times? Doubling is twice, how about Tripling? to make this extreme case.
