I am looking at a coin on ebay and the seller is in South Korea. I usually don't buy coins from the far east because of all the problems with fakes. (Japan is an exception to the general rule). In my mind South Korea is a modern country and so I should have less of a problem with fakes. The coin is in a NGC holder and the seller has positive feedback. There is another coin by a U.S. seller but is is currently $100 higher than the bid on the coin from South Korea.

Has anybody had any experience buying from South Korea?

I,ve sold loads of coins to buyers in South Korea and they have always been very curtious.

Bought a few notes from private sellers and always received them OK

You never know, it may be a U.S. Soldier or family member serving in the R.O.K.

I'd consider Korea on par with Japan in that regard.

South Korea is a well-developed nation. It's actually overtaken Japan in growth. I wouldn't expect a level of fakes on par with China.

The fakes are around the world , some people buy and sale with out knowledge just to make some money... others try to make money knowing they sale fakes...remember not only the coins can be fake, the certification can be too...and doesn't matter in what country you buy ...is not easy to buy anymore in ebay ...i got pandas from China with no problem and I got 2 fake coins from 2 sellers here in USA (fixed with no problem)... so use caution , check feed backs , ask in forums and good luck ....

I recently had a negative experience with a seller from South Korea. He almost forced me to take an altered coin (believing that it's an error coin) which I paid a fair amount, claiming that it's no returns.

If it wasn't for Paypal, I would have lost out completely. That said, that applies to any other sellers in any countries - everyone's different so it's no good letting one bad apple spoil the rest.
