Hi my names Bev. Iam new to the forum. I don't collect coins but come across a five pence in my change last year. I have had the coin examined by The Royal Mint museum. And received a letter of authentication the coin the obverse and reverse dies is incorrect at 180 degrees. I would like to know if anybody else as one Thanks

Nope - never found a significant rotation error. 180* is a darn good one though!

Interesting find Bev ! I will check a few 2008 5p coins I have and start looking out ASAP before the RM pulls out all the cupronickel 5p`s from circulation ......

I have heard of this error, but have only been able to find slightly rotated examples (Generally less than 15% at a guess)

I had a dozen of them or so at one time, all retrieved from one single bag of new coins. One sold for £4.77 on ebay, rest still sitting in my spares tin.

I know that in 2008 there was the first year of the Royal Shield design and the last time that thisle reverse was used on the 5 pence.
Royal Shield since then and in 2011 the metal was changed to nickel-plated steel.

The errors are on the shield type from 2008 - I always check for any when I get one in change but so far have never found any more.

So far,I still have only 2 of the error 5p.I am aware that to date, there are 9 known, of which I have 2.i get £30.00 of 5p every week from mu local bank and post office(staggered over a few days), and I have only found 38 dated 2008, and no more errors. It seems that 2008 are a very scarce coin to find in circulation.Load sof 2101 onwards.I think The Royal Mint have tried to take them all out of circulation.

puts my five pence error coin to shame :p, mine has no rotation error that I know of, but instead have the letters c and v filled in, ill try and upload a photo soon. Also found a 20 pence coin with a little blob of metal on the queens mouth, not really anything special or big but though for 20p bugger it ill keep it ahah.
