Hey folks,
I know the pics aren't the best, but I would love your initial opinions as to the grade on this 32 S Washington. I'm somewhere around AU50ish. I think it would grade higher if the obverse didn't have so many dings int it.

Dings are more of a factor in Mint State grades. I agree your coin looks AU50 or maybe a bit better. Washingtons are tough to grade and this one might be AU+ if it could be viewed in-hand. Nice early date!

Thanks BH1964. It would be a nice hole filler for my album until I could afford a better example.

The pictures are a little on the small side for grading and checking authenticity. I don't see anything suspicious with the coin. Overall, I think it can grade around a AU-55. Most of the luster appears to be intact with a little bit of scuffing in the fields and light wear on the cheek and breast feathers. The hits are not desirable but I feel they won't cause a details grade or get it downgraded to a low AU. Great looking key date!

If that coin was Mint State it would probably go MS-60 or MS-61. I tend to believe this relates to almost uncirculated coins in the AU-50 grade. The reverse is stronger, but too many focal area marks take away from the coin's eye appeal on an absolute basis. Is it a great coin to have if you don't want to put $600 or more dollars into this issue? Sure! Congrats.

Au-55 I'm going with.
