I know that the best way to protect coins is to slab them or to use mylar flips etc.

What I want to know about is the folders put out by Whitman, Dansco, and the like.
Do they generally keep coins in decent condition, or are the coins more likely to suffer deterioration than if I were to staple them in cardboard 2x2s?

Thanks

Dansco is the best if you want an album, but a lot of people just use the 2x2's and put them in pages. Personally I have almost all my coins in Dansco's and like the way they look and haven't had any problem with damage.

I think most folders like Dansco and whitman would do a pretty good job (probably as much as a 2x2 stapled together) to keep the coin safe

I like the Dansco. The Whitmans are a lower grade album and I am going to switch out the couple I have to Dansco in the future. For my world coins I have 3-ring binders that I put Harco pages in. For my Canadians and British 6 pence I use the Gardmaster albums. The Canadian albums are pre-printed and the the ones for the 6p I had to hand write in the dates. I use 2x2's also for storage of dups and singles (ones I'm not going to make a whole collection out of). I tried the flips for a bit but didn't think much of them as I don't have a sealer and it seemed the coins moved around too much for my liking. I use airtites for the more expensive ones I own. The few folders I have are the Harris type and I only keep my 2nd set of Lincolns in them. I think I will get some for a circ set of Jeffersons I am doing.

I like the folders for my lower value coins as it makes it fun to "fill the book". I don't put valuable or uncirculated material in them.
Rest in Peace

I like Dansco, however I have some old Whitman albums, and the coins in them look fine after 20 years or so.

I'm a fan of 2x2's, as I collect lots of world coins of various shapes and sizes.
I use the self-adhesive ones, and then I place them in pages.

Lots of confusion here as to the words folders and albums. The folders are the ones with a backing sheet of paper and press in slots for the coins. They actually fold open and close. An Album is the ones where you can see both sides of the coins in a book type style with plastic slides covering the front and back of the coins. As far as I am concerned no one should use folders unless they just don't care about coins.
