Just noticed this since my last round of auctions, and after reading every word available about it, I've cautiously added it to the auction I started tonight. I'm scared to death, because this is a high-dollar item and it's a consignment to boot. However, it certainly seems like it allows me to include International buyers in ebay's approved locations, while still offering me appropriate seller protection like tracking and stuff. If it works, it's something they've been needing to add very badly. Anybody have any experience with it?

I saw the thing for it and have been meaning to look into it more. It would be real nice to just let them deal with the hassle of it, though I couldnt figure out what they would be charging for the shipping or the fee for it in my skimming of it.

I dunno. Your item seems special but regarding this new program: I'm wondering why for normal auctions you can't just use the eBay/PayPal postage calculator. A few months back I sold ebay items that went to France and Italy. I used the eBay/PayPal postage calculator to get postage info, then included that amount in the invoice. That form automatically fills in customs info, etc.and presents the address correctly. Both arrived safely and timely without a hitch. Some sellers won't ship out of US, but in my case both were the only bids, so I would have lost the sales. It's not really difficult to use the calculator. I'm concerned they will soon make it obligatory (like having to use PayPal) to use this program for all non US shipments. Anpther huge cash cow for ebay.

The only reason I went there is because they state specifically that it satisfies conditions for both ebay and Paypal Seller Protection. Before this, as far as I know there was literally no way to ship overseas and retain Seller Protection. The downside? Global Shipping is not available for coins.

There is one way to satisfy seller protection overseas, thats registered mail. Their is now also delivery confirmation tracking on some international packages sent via the USPS. For example I just sold a 1923 canadian cent on ebay yesterday and was able to ship it with delivery confirmation tracking info

I am on another forum where there was a brief discussion of the Global Shipping program. I don't have a lot of information & what I do have is heresay. The main complaint seemed to be that there is a minimum $19.99 fee on top of the shipping, customs, taxes, etc involved with shipping from the Global Shipping center to the buyer. That's probably not a big deal if it's a really high dollar item but seems like it would be a deal breaker on lower priced items.

Bump for an interesting observation. Just for fun, I opened the page in a different browser (not logged in) to see what international shipping would look like. For many countries, shipping costs were approaching $50 and import duties exceeded $200. That's ludicrous, at least for buyers. And the current high bidder, 10 minutes from the auction end, is from a country not eligible for the Global Shipping Program.

Good lord on the shipping fees for the buyers. So basically unless the coins worth thousands you probably wont get much extra interest from it it sounds like

The import duties are the true problem, and the item in question here was a camera. Most countries charge duties on cameras but few charge on coins. Fortunately for me, an American sniped the auction.

Even getting close to 50 seems excessive without the imports. I'm pretty sure you could send most things global priority mail for a heck of a lot less than that. Thats more expensive than most of the global express flat rate packages

I didn't check closely, but the majority of offerings seemed to revolve around Global Priority Mail - just not Flat Rate because they obviously can't calculate what size box you'd be using. Seller input to that effect might be a good tweak for the future. Still won't help us with coins.
