I question whether this coin is genuine?

Here are a few others from the same seller:

Liberty on this 1854 looks chubby to me ...

Here's an 1850 "deep dish" large cent (lighting?) ...

Is the lighting making these coins look surreal? The seller has excellent feedback and offers a 14 day return.

I'm inclined to consider these - given that they all have the same look - the result of lighting and how his particular camera functions under the conditions. I've seen that sort of cartoonish 3-D depth in coin images before.

Looks like plaster. I've seen these types of images on some Lincoln Cents on ebay.

All of his coin images for sale have the same look very deep and 3D like. I'm not sure from the photos, the coins looks pretty good to me taking into account the deep 3D look is from the lighting and camera. He is lighting the coins from the top and at a very low angle, which might be hiding other obvious issues like damage, cleaning, and scratches. I'd keep looking myself.

I agree that the way this seller lights his coins makes them look odd. I don't think it's for deceptive reasons. I think it's more the case that they think it looks good while most others would disagree.

Those photos are bizarre. Anyone else think the 1854 Half Dime looks like a decorated birthday cake? You know, with those cheap hardened sugar daisies and such, the ones you peel from the paper and plop onto a frosted cake?

They kind of look like drink coasters to me.
