I bought this raw uncertified 1886 Liberty nickel for $100. Good buy for this AG/G nickel?

If you've gotta hole to fill, it's good in my book. Awhile back, an '85 went for $86 here.

If you're happy with the price, then I would say it is a good buy. FMV on G-4 is $222, so I don't think you did bad at all. It looks original to me. Definitely a hole-fller, not going to win any beauty contests.

Compared to what is selling on ebay right now, it is a bit on the high side but I do not think you did badly. Honestly, I was a bit surprised at the sales prices on the bay. The obverse has descent detail - overall, I think it is nice example at that grade .

I'd say it's a fair price. Obverse look a bit weak, so probably AG3.

better price than anything I've seen lately, everyone around here thinks key dates carry $100 premiums along with them

You did fine Not enough rim detail reverse to squeeze out a G4 but a nice overall coin

I'd say you did fine. The scratch on the obverse could be in a worse place, and the pits/corrosion on the reverse are often seen. I paid well over $500 for a VF-20 and that was darn difficult to find. May you enjoy yours for many for years to come!
And post script: Part of my deal was trading in an 1886 with tape/glue on it! A tough looking, good coin. In the future, should you wish to upgrade, your nickel will serve you well.

The primary difficulty in responding to these 'did I do well' threads is lack of knowledge of the posters collecting goals and objectives. I note that the OP is from Singapore ... so I suppose these might be tough to come by there. My view of the coin is that it is an environmentally damaged (corroded) example of a well worn (AG or so) key date in the series. Bottom line to all collectors ... if you are happy with it then that is all that matters. David
