I have recently acquired a decently sized foreign coin collection. This collection has about 80+ Notgeld and other various transportation tokens from Germany. Foreign coins is something that I have recently got into. As far as Notgeld, I know next to nothing. Since I like to research and learn, I am trying to attribute all of these tokens. I haven't really not been able to (so far) find each one, but sometimes descriptions are sketchy. For some I have found the F#, but for some I have not. I wanted to know for these German Notgeld tokens, and others: - best online sources? - what attribution numbers/scales are used? For example, KM numbers are used for foreigns. What about these? - which books are the best to acquire? - any good dealer websites out there which can also be used for reference?
Thanks.

To picture a whole lot at the same time, put them in a scanner. Turn them over and scan again.
Although the picture of the individual coins is not as good we get to see a lot of tokens. Perhaps there is someone here among us who can help you identify them.

the best intenet resource is http://www.ma-shops.comthis numismatic field is very special and different. most books are only available in german. notgeld, made of metal, paper and other materials has been minted in nearly all cities, villages and towns and also from companies in germany, austria and former german areas because of the first world war, inflation and the lack of current money. standard catalog in the germanspeaking countries: Walter Funck: Die deutschen Notmünzen: Alle amtlichen Ausgaben und deren Varianten der Länder, Kreise, Städte und Gemeinden http://www.amazon.de/Die-deutschen-..._sim_sbs_b_1

For the first: it is very important, to write the correct city names. It might be strange for you and I know that there is no letter ä, ö or ü existing in the states. you can also write "ae" instead of "ä", "oe" for "ö" and "ue" for "ü".
the problem is: in germany there is one town with the name "Munster" located in lower saxony and there also exists a town "Münster" in North Rhine-Westphalia. There are also existing many "Mulheim" (Mülheim) and Muhlheim (Mühlheim) in different areas of Germany.
and to locate the first: The name of the town is Siegen.
There are a lot of mistakes in the english and american based numismatic literatures. (esp. Krause/Mishler in Germany and Austria is very famous for its several dozens of mistakes regarding the regions, names and territories ;-)
About the Notgeld, I can´t tell you more, because it´s not my special interest. By the way: this Notgeld are no tokens or jetons, it was local issued legal tender.

Thanks. My keyboard doesn't have those characters so the doubled vowels will help. Some of the online sites I have been using do add the state name after the city name, so I should add them to my coin files and when I describe them. Thanks again. Being from Austria, do you collect Austrian coins and currency or also other countries? Do you collect German? I have a question for a German coin and I'm looking for some help. I haven't gone through all of these coins yet, but I'm sure there will be some from Austria.

Hi, originally, I am from Germany. (cologne) I am specialized on the coins of cologne, of course. This is one part of my collection. The second part is about contemporary counterfeits of goldcoins.
I do not collect austrian or other german coins, but I still have a lot of them. Of course I know also a lot about the german/austrian/central european numismatics. greets

I specialize in collecting German Notgeld coins. There are a small number of catalogues or books on these, but two of the best are the Lamb (Engish) book and the Funck (German) book. I can probably answer any specific questions you may have.
