Hi Dadon, my immediate reaction is that it is a fake of some description as the King's head just doesn't look "right" (I know that is not a good technical term! but we don't collect old stuff!); Edward VII reign was from 1901 to 1910; George and Dragon on the obverse - seems suss but don't know enough. Be interesting to hear some proper responses from the experts! Could it be a badly faked token of some description?

Not exactly a fake as it's deliberately not copying anything. That's the point of the impossible date. Some of these orignate in Greece and were used in Vasilopita, Greek Saint Basil's New Year's Cake, very much like a siver threepence in a Christmas Pudding. There may be traces of gildng left on the coin.
That explanation doesn't cover all of these copies, maybe 50%.

Yep - not a fake, its got the date being impossible. Looks to be a token/play omney copying a sovereign. Possibly a jewellers copy - I would expect for there to be gilt on it. Is there any, say, within reeding?

EDIT - where are my manners?

OK, here's three examples;

Any-Help-With-This-Coin?

Left hand side is brass and very modern. Look at the date, then check out the king. Very Basil Cake.
The middle is probably another, and has a phony date but beautiful patina. No more than 30 years old.
The right hand coin does have some traces of gildng and also a fair amount of wear. There's a name on the truncation something like C Rija, and it didn't get written up when it was researched but from memory it has nothing to do with Basil Cake. There are quite a few sovereign type coins with spurious dates for which there is to date no explanation.

I agree that is is a token because King Edward was on the G.B. coins between 1902-1910
