I was wondering if this is a weak strike or something else. The rims are nicely formed. both surfaces are smooth to the touch and you can see the image of the queens bust on the Obv and the image of the Maple Leaf and dots on the Rev.

OBV:

REV:

Wow---Is that called a no strike? Ghost strike?
A complete mechanical malfunction. Calibration error? I've heard that the mint has no system to catch these errors effectively, too costly !

Not sure. I thought it was a cool find from a roll.

I have a 1982 with a OBV struck through a Die Cap. Is it possible to have both the Hammer Die and the Anvil Die to be capped?

That would be one heck of a Greaser. Do you think there could be any chance struck through a rev and obv die cap or is that pretty much an impossibility?

It looks a lot like a Dryer Coin. I have a couple that have similar wear (not as much), have been told that they are Dryer Coins. Mine have similar rims and the leaf looks more worn, but same look. Apparently they get stuck in commercial dryers and cycle through for a long duration, eventually wearing down.

"dryer coins" have their rims affected...usually to a great extent. They will either have their rims wore down. The longer in the dryer...the more the rims are worn down. The rims on my coin are not worn at all.

There are quite a few threads on the forum discussing Dryer Coins. Here is one...just the first on the search inquiry generated list.

Weak-Strike-Or-Something-Else?

This is a picture of one of my coins. Very similar pattern of wear on the reverse. Notice how the leaves and "ada" are flattened in a similar way. You're example just looks much more worn.

In addition, it looks like yours was originally a 12 sided penny. Can you make out the date at all?
