I picked up this lower-grade half and noticed the very small mintmark style. It is much smaller that the type used for my PCGS-graded VF-25 example of the same date. Does anyone know the story behind the different mintmark types?
I also have an NGC-graded XF-45 1876-CC half with similar tiny mintmark, although the spacing seems closer than on the worn 1877-CC. Here are photos of the worn 1877-CC plus mintmark shots of all three coins.
