I picked up this coin in Mexico:

1841-Guadalajara-8-Reales---A-Riddell-Counterfeit?

1841-Guadalajara-8-Reales---A-Riddell-Counterfeit?

It looks like No. 399 in the Riddell book, including the fact that it is silver-plated copper. The differences to the original described by Riddell ("Wings too broad near the body. Right vine different") match. However, the denticles on the obverse (eagle side) differ (large in Riddell's example, very small in mine.

My rudimentary knowledge of coin manufacturing shows me a raised edge, which would mean that my coin was edge-reeded after having been struck. No mentioning of the edge in Riddell.

Is there any way to establish or discard that my coin is one of those shown in Riddell?

I vote yes, it is very likely the No. 399 in Riddell Book.

Genuine Mexico 8Rs were edged before striking. Dosmundos, can I have a look at the edge of your coin? Let me see the difference between edged before and after striking.

Wonghinghi, if you take a look at the rim above the word "REPUBLICA", you will notice that the denticles don't extent to the edge of the coin. Also, the copper is showing through, forming a brown arc - this is because this arc at the edge is higher than the denticles themselves, which indicates to me that the edge was applied after the striking of the coin.

Realeswatcher, thanks, I guess I should have pointed this out and not just stated that the edge was applied after the stamping.
It could have "shortened" the denticles in comparison to the Riddell picture, or the planchets are of different size (if it happened in the real mints, why not in the forgers' mints as well).
Weight is 22.42g
