I can't see the "I" in Liberty in the pictures. If it doesn't have it I would have to go with VG-10. But it is still a sweet looking coin. Wish mine was that good.

Faint "I" in liberty, overall F-12. nice looking 1884....most you see are worn, seems to be problem free and I don't think the cleaning was harsh.

F12 I don't see any reason to detail this coin for problems D0ubl3Eagle? Or do you mean the coin shows the details in design of a Fine12 coin?

When I looked at it, I thought it may have been lightly cleaned. I guess I was expecting a darker shade of gray for a coin in this grade and this seemed a bit "white" and bright to me. Maybe it is the lighting that is giving it that bright appearance.

The "I" is very faint. Maybe F-12.

VG-10 in my book, but almost everyone these days seems to ignore the fact that there needs to be some 'I' to get to fine, so market F-12. There is no 'I' at all, and small parts of the 'L' and 'B' are missing as well. Even TPGs are starting to ignore the ASA guidelines on this series in that grade range. I suppose it makes some sense as the jump from VG to F-12 would be pretty big. An official VG looks like garbage and a "ASA" F-12 is already a half-decent coin.

So I'm split. I have no problem calling a coin like this F-12, and allowing the real full LIBERTY to be F-15, but the purist in me is annoyed that 95% of people are calling these coins fine in the face of the official guidelines.
