I purchased this coin here and decided to soak the coin in acetone and distilled water due to gunk on the reverse along with PVC damage. Below is the results. The reverse was black before and it is weird what was under the gunk. I guess the black wasn't toning?

The skunge that was on the reverse has corroded the coin. Until the skunge was removed, there is no way of knowing that the damage may have been caused by it. In this case, the story has turned out to be a sad one.

Yes, too bad about the reverse. I thought the black stuff on the reverse was toning, apparently it was just gunk because it came off with a distilled water and acetone soak, neither which affect toning. The front looks improved. The reverse kind of wrecks it. Not too bad of a buy for $12 though with VF details. I forgot the link to the original since I didn't take a picture first:

Yeah, wow, verdigris is not so common on the silver. Some of BadThad's solution might help conserve it.

Actually, I don't think that is verdigris. Usually green stuff on non-coppers is PVC damage but soaked this for while in acetone and distilled water. I soaked it over night for a couple nights. I am thinking this just might be toning. Maybe it was a dig? That turns coins different colors. I have used verdigris on nickels and it turned kind of greasy. I only use Verdi-care on coppers even though it says you can use it on any coin. I know I was soaking this coin along with some gunked up V-Nickels together which didn't seem like a good idea since stuff from one coin can go on another. I had the same thing happening soaking a worthless foreign dime with a corroded steel cent. I had to re-soak stuff but this red and green stuff appears to be part of this coin and will not come off from soaking overnight.
