Way cool. We've seen one or two of these prior; somebody had a *lot* of time on their hands.

Neat! From what I have read Large Cents didn't get much respect during their time and were often damaged.

I wouldn't feel bad about cleaning the coin, in this case. It's been holed, filed, and buried in the ground. I think the cleaning has minimal detriment.

This is a really neat find. Sure beats the heck out of bottle caps & pull tabs

These are often called "gears", but they are more likely pastry crimpers. If you will notice the "gear" teeth and not even or the same size. A gear with teeth like that would not work very well.

I'd have to agree with Condor on this. Definitely has some value to a relic collector.

Look at the edge of that one, Penny Guy! Hard to deny it's a pastry crimper; certainly not a gear.

I'd say it's a crimper, not a spur. Not really pointy enough to be a spur. BTW, not to knock yours, but the one Penny Guy linked to is really well made. Has a nice pattern on the edge.

Oh I agree that thing is beautiful the one penny guy linked. The spur guess was from a friend who is big into that stuff, he showed me some spurs that weren't all that pointy but then again it was just a guess.

Whatever its intended use was, I can imagine to dig something like this up would still be exciting.
