Yeah, I'd agree the coin in the OP was a pastry wheel, no doubt. Would be awesome to see one of these with the handle! Imagine that.

I don't know, if it was found in a known riding area it's probably a homemade spur rowel.

You're assuming it was made in the 1830's. I'm just going by what was posted. If it was a rural area and pasture land, it's possible his buddy was right and its a homemade rowel.
