I need to find out the cheapest way to ship a 1 Oz coin and clamshell, new variety to ont and 1 to bc. I'm shipping from Alberta. I seldom mail anything, and I've paid anywhere from $8-15 when making ebay purchases. It seems our postal rates are very high. I know others probably can use this info too. Any info on shipping will be a real asset. It seems the height of the clamshell makes it more costly to ship. Thanks Rox

About $10 to B.C and about $14 to Ontario both tracked expedited post from Alberta. Everywhere in the world has cheaper shipping rates than Canada.

If you're near the US border or planning a trip soon...

BC to QC = $14 for clamshell
Washington to QC = $7 for clamshell

You can ask the buyer if they want to skip the clamshell part. It will cost about $2 if you only send the COA and coin in padded envelope. They could then buy a case in their home city, usually for a couple bucks.

Try joining Canada Post's Venture One program, you get some of the advantages of XpressPost shipping, but at expedited shipping costs (usually you save about 10%).

Otherwise, there is no cheaper alternative...

^^^^^^^^

If you use Paypal for ebay items, you get 18% discount on expedited shipping. Used to be 25% off.
Cheaper than going to the post office.

The discount offered through PayPal does add up in savings. It saves time and money. Just make sure you have a scale and a measuring tape.

I completely forgot about this.... Ever notice you sometimes get a package covered in old stamps, from an online purchase at a coin dealer?

The absolutely cheapest means for shipping, is to buy stamp collections from the 1960s to the 1990s, and 'lick-and-stick'... you can usually find Canadian stamps at about 75% of face value, and if you are astute enough on ebay, can snag them for 40-60% of face value, usually from American collections. Since you are buying from collectors and other dealers, they are almost always tax free... My last purchase, I bought $200 face value of Canadian stamps, for $80.

Plus, it keeps your math skills sharp, adding up the right stamps to get correct postage!!

Stamps is fine for low value items like the $20 for $20 or the War of 1812 quarters but I prefer expedited with tracking for more expensive items.

Great ideas! My next question, is buying shipping with tracking within Canada reliable? I've read a few horror stories, that scares me off shipping anything worth over $20. I need to thin out and streamline my collection, so will be selling roughly 20 clam shelled items. I'm wondering what people think about those pre paid express envelopes? Are they worth the money over stand parcel. I'm asking because everytime I get coins from Quebec in them, it's usually 9 days. I check the post mark. It's a shame shipping is so expensive in Canada. I'm pretty much home bound, due to chronic pain. I'm looking for an effiecient way to ship, without bugging someone to go to post office for me. Also are there any discounts on the prepaid envelopes? Another question; has anyone noticed bubble mailers seem to cost more to ship, in comparison to using a normal envelope that fits through the slot. I feel I'm missing something.
