Take a look at this listing, then check over this person's recent sales and see if you can come up with any rationale for the prices they are getting for the Morgans... Shill bidding maybe?

With a quick glance it looks like hes getting the prices for the grades he has listed, whether or not those are accurate is a different story

Bunch of baloney. That needs to make ms67 to keep from going backwards. Got to be shills looking for a mark. I don't think the strike is good enough on the reverse to make ms66 let alone a 67. nlp

Based on what I saw in the bid history and the bid history of the bidders, it looks like shill bidding. That definitely does not look MS66++++++ to me, I would guess MS63/64 based on the pictures.

I am almost speechless, and praying that this is just shill bidding. Perusing the other feedback from the buyers, I'm afraid I'm wrong.

This could certainly be shill buying. I didn't go too far into the feedback to recognize a pattern of 4 consistent buyers. He's either developed a loyal following of people who like to overspend on their coins, or he's just a very smart seller. It's really impossible to tell, but if he's using shill buyers, he's paying ebay a fortune in fees....

I see nothing indicative of shill bidding there. The bidders you're questioning had higher bids in, and if someone else added a jump bid, they automatically got disqualified (therefore never showing up in the bidding process), and the original bidder appeared again as the next higher bid than the jump.

Edit: "I***1" must have had a sky-high automatic bid.

All I can say (as someone who sells Morgans on ebay every day with a loyal following), this seller has something disturbing going on. I know not what - that's why I opened the thread. Tomorrow I'm going to drop a dime on him and see if The Bay can figure it out.. PG

Agreed; I'm afraid what he's got going on is a few fish on the line, though. The sheer amount of Final Values he'd be paying for this tends to discount the shill idea in my mind.

There is the possibility that the seller may have a few shills. If you look at the second to the last bidder (third down), you see that he has almost 1200 bids on 200 items, 71% with this particular seller.

Look at current (2 hrs left) item #121101091329 and you see the activity of bringing that item up from $200 to $600 over a 16 hour period using 22 bids. In the midst of it, the actual bidder took the bait, but the item was bid up out of range again.

Many times, people simply look at the current bid and how many bids there are without thinking to see what the actual bidding activity was. Being caught up in the moment, without thinking, that Place Bid button suddenly gets pressed before reality hits.

That's the way I see this. To me, it seems to happen quite often on ebay, as well. That's one reason why I believe some people become confused when they use ebay auction prices to determine their coin value and then end up nowhere near such prices realized.

When you bid you can put in your max bid. So if the first buy put in a max of say 700 and the 2nd bidder put in a max of 599 itll jump the first one up to the 600 one. Others may have been bidding it up along the way since I dont think it shows it as a 2nd bid until someone passes the initial bidders max
