Today in my change I found two different 1987-D Lincoln Penny, one that had the D mint mark much lower then other, while the other was much closer to the date and slightly crooked.

See attached picture.

Is one of these two a common error or even considered an error coin?

Thanks
Mickfamily

Hello and Welcome to the forum jgmick.
I believe this is common but don't take my word for it. Let's wait for someone elses opinion..

Hi jgmick

I agree with the other two posters the mint marks are both within normal tolerances.

The position of the MM unless it is wildly out of position offers no added value to the coin.

Very common. Before 1990 the mintmarks on the cent were punched into each die by hand and as such tend to wander around all over the place from one die to the next. Usually unless the mintmark touches some of the other design details it has no premium.

That is very common, and within the range of the mint mark. But it is neat to see it side by side.

Yup, exactly what the others said. Check 1988D...there are a number of dies with low, high, right, and left positioning. All normal, none carry premium value.
