I've just seen this for sale
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...161013377905

Apart from unmentioned damage around the mouth, the nose looks slightly wrong to me.

Otherwise, it looks unbelievably good.

Am I right ?

This one is crying out for swamperbob, but for what its worth, it looks suspect to me. Cast, at a guess. There are one or two surface marks whch look like casting holes but, no expert me
All in all, it looks so perfect that you'd really want to believe in it. Just hope that it's kosher

Compared to this MS63 I would stay away from the ebay coin. There are too many things that look crude that shouldn't look crude. The anchor on the reverse, the BB mint mark, and the shape of the inside of the ear for starters. It's not just high point details, but missing metal which shouldn't be missing even on a low grade coin.

Can any body tell me how they made the raised lettered edge than? For Belgian 5 francs coin (similar to the French ones due to the Latin union that was in place at that time) a lot of fakes exist, but I have never seen one with a raised lettered edge. Apparently that is a hurdle the counterfitters cannot take...

Not a fake just very baggy looks like its been knocked around abit. Not UNC eagle has wear.

When I had a shop sellers / Joe public would come with coins in tins and bags etc. shaking them saying do you buy coins and just emptying them out on counter spreading them out, of cause any nice UNC coins getting knocked around.

yours

michael

PS I've seen dealers do the same above and know one who still does always has a little cloth bag with coins and shakes them at you.

If it's the same dealer I know, he's very shrewd.

He has only junk coins in his cloth bag.

See the bottom figure, there is a seam that is suspecious to me. It also not look like silver-made.

The edge looks like it's been made separately - see under the 5.

I've seen fakes of this coin, this is not one. It's in pretty good condition, too: yes, baggy, so many are, but it shows nice color/luster, strong rims. I'm not surprised it's getting as much attention bid-wise.
