Hi, I'm new here and I got a 1918 British penny from my grandpa and noticed to the left of the date was the numbers kn. When I looked it up I found it is pretty expensive. Does anyone have any information about it and why it is so valuable. The coin grade is very fine (20).

Joseph7420- Yes, your coin was a low-mintage issue. So it is kind of a key penny for the 20th century. Not a bad coin to inherit.

Sorry, but I'm having trouble posting pictures and the ones I take aren't clear. I can try to describe it the best I can. The kings face doesn't have much details, I can read the words clearly and can see the eye, mustache, and inside the ear.
On the lady sitting down, I can't see the face and helmet well, most folds in her clothes are visible along with most of the shield (only a strip of the shield is not visible). All letters are visible. The coin is not toned besides being a little darker brown.
Hope this helps.

For 1918, 84,227,372 British pennies were struck at The Royal Mint Tower Hill, London and
a combined total of 3,660,800 pennies were struck at the Heaton and Kings Norton Mints in Birmingham.

Coincraft catalogue notes that the Birmingham pennies were invariably weakly struck, and tended to tone yellowish, whereas the London coins toned darkly.

Coincraft 1998 catalogue values the 1918 Heaton pennies in VF at 15 Pounds, and the
1918 KN (Kings Norton) pennies at 20 Pounds in VF.

If you haven't got a fully struck up shield it won't make Fine.
