Hi Catman
Nice coin,, I dont see the wear that would put this coin as an EF but the pics are small, I think it might go AU-50 BRN ,, either way its a very nice coin clear fields, and great detail.

If you click on "View full-size image" in very small letters below and to the right of the pic, you can see more detail. I saw wear on the hair above and around the ear, the ribbon (though it could be due to a weaker strike, it looked like there was a small amount of rub). It also appears that there is a small amount of rub on the lower right ribbon in the wreath.
Question Catman: Does the mark on the neck look like a hit to you or a die problem? It's hard to tell from the pics and I could see where it could go either way.

Howdy! After blowing up the photo, I saw what appears to be some porosity in the field in front of United on the obverse. And oddly enough, the reverse looks like it is worn more or weakly struck. I think those issues keep it from being an AU. I'll guess EF45 as well. All said, a very nice coin! Mike

Susan,
The mark on the neck is a hit.
Mike I see the porsoity in the photo but it don't exist on the coin. Neither is the darkness at the lower left.

Mike What does a weak strike have to with a coin grading AU? if this were true very few new orleans morgans would be able to make a grade of AU. Catman has dicredited the porosity on the obverse and the discoloration seen in the pics, do you have a new guess at the grade of a coin? Rick

My comment on strike was meant to say I could not tell if it was wear or a weak strike. I know N.O. Morgans are notorious for their weak strikes and are graded accordingly. Most reverses seem to look better than obverses IMO. Given the correction on porosity and assuming light wear on the reverse I would call it an AU50. Mike
