I have not gotten an auction catalogue yet, but the lots, and most of their photos, are online at icollector. There is some eye candy that I have my eye on... There is a good handful of Canadian errors, and big consignment of tokens. http://www.icollector.com/Toronto-C...a15934?m=allI am looking forward to the show... I can almost taste the Balzac's Coffee, which is in the same building... (Best.Coffee.Ever.) One of the dealers listed only has his first name on there: Oliver. Why the opaqueness? And I hope it's not who I think it is, i.e. the car dealer of jewellers.

Oliver is a bullion dealer, and pays the best price for silver... he usually buys from the other dealers. He is a quiet guy, but very intelligent and knows a lot about Old World coins.

My token that SPP helped me out with, is item #858. There is even a photo of it on the back cover of the catalogue!! Fingers are now triple crossed!

Oli is a solid dealer and pays well. Around the time that Hub City was robbed at Pearson Airport there were rumors that some thieves were targeting dealers from shows. Since he deals mostly with untracable PM's I don't blame him for keeping some personal info discrete. You can confidently deal with Oliver without concerns.

Mindfreak, it was a pleasure to handle and test that token for you, and to be able to help you. Good luck in the auction, if it sells strong, then you can treat me to a Balzac's Americano coffee... For those, who remember, this was an item first discussed here: https://goccf.com/t/123472

Phew, glad to know RO hasn't infiltrated our community directly. I'm strongly considering coming out to this show, having missed the last two and being super busy and broke. Does anyone know if they do that token thing where you show the token and get $1 off admission?

I'm still wondering how something from an era of obsession with copper weight is able to have a silver alloy off-metal enter heavy circulation (VG) and not be plucked?
How many thousands of people must have handled it for it to get to VG?

After a long discussion with Chris Faulkner (the author of the new Holy Dollar book) in my XRF lab, we concluded it was struck with genuine dies - the rim is very convincing. But this coin may have been struck some time after 1824. There is no record of what happened to the dies of the Nova Scotia tokens... a "restrike", as it were...
The question is why - at that time, the value of the silver would be worth far more than the face value of the coin.
