When I stated "spending" the Two Cent Piece, I had in mind with somebody I knew so that I could get it back again. I can't afford spending $20 coins just for laughs.

I asked my wife this same question not more than a week ago.
Are they still recognized as legal tender?...I would assume so.

For Tsmith. I can't figure out how to quote a post so I'll copy and paste what I'm replying to.

"Can they actually be picked up that inexpensively that you'd simply give they away? That's new to me."

Generally, yes. What gave me the idea is my favorite dealer was at a coin show. He gave my step daughter a really worn/banged up/corroded 2 cent for free. The 2 x 2 was labled "Free if you are under 13".

I used to do this many years ago when there was no market for culls. I'd buy something that was two for a quarter and tender a dime, 2c piece, and Half Cent. Sometimes they'd laugh but they'd always be impressed.

It's also fun to spend unc clads from the '60's and '70's. You'd be surprised how many people notice it. I usually tell them I've got a printing press or a time machine in my basement.

I agree with Smith. If you are going to mess with people's heads do it with Sac's Prez or SBA's. Give the 2 or 3 cent pieces to young (or young at heart) collectors that don't have any.

I like doing the same thing with dateless buffalos and Indian Head cents, they can be had very cheap and start a very interesting conversation.

I always spend Kennedy halves, dollar coins and occasionally $2 bills. I'm going to have to try spending a really cool obsolete piece or two and see what happens. My dealer always has cheap large cents, 2-cents and 3-cents with readable dates that don't look all that bad. Sounds like this could be fun. ~Jim

It wasn't that long ago you could buy 2 cent and 3 cent nickels in Good for $2.50 to $3.50 each. V nickels are another good choice. In Good they are still under a dollar each but they have a very different look to them. I have three Copper nickel Indian cents that are a little rough but with VF sharpness that I picked up real cheap which I eventually plan on spending.

Or you could just buy something from me for 2 cents above cost.
