This 2005 Nickel has a partially filled S and a partially filled 2. Could these be Die Dents? Thanks for any help. Pete

Looks like die chips to me.

They are die chips. Very common on the single squeeze die making process. They chip a lot faster after a few thousand coins. The 2005 nickels were very chipped including the quarter series.

Thanks - so these would be something different than, say filled mintmarks? It seems like I see a lot of those... Pete

No, more than likely the filled mintmarks are also die chips, Pictures would help though !

There are pictures...I see them on my computer. Please look again and let me know if you do not see them. XZACHX and coop, in their responses, were implying that they could see the photos. Thanks, Pete

Pete, I believe he was saying pictures of the filled mint marks would help determine if they were die chips as well.

Of course! How dense of me! Maybe, at my advanced age, I can claim senility? I have been discarding these filled mintmarks, but I'll post the next one I find.
My apologies to papatony!
Pete

I went back and pulled a 1978 Quarter I had discarded. I am only posting the filled mintmark, but can post the whole coin if someone wants to see it. Should I be keeping these? Thanks, Pete

Not sure if that one's a die chip or a really worn coin.

I am thinking that if I do not receive any other responses, I might start a new thread with this subject. Thanks, Pete

That is a damaged coin, but the MM would not look like that being damaged. I believe it is a die chip in the MM and the pic of the coin I can see is beat up.

Thanks - I have been discarding coins like this with a die chip in the MM. Should I be keeping them instead? Pete

I dont think there is a premium for these, but if you like them sure keep it! I keep some strange things myself, just for me.

After the post that shapes the center of a devices breaks off, then the thousands of coins after that happens will have the same mark. I see no premium for these. Also on the image above there is PMD to the mint mark as well. Spendable coin.
