When any of you post do you take the picture of coin off these Digital Microscopes? Any model you would recommend to use. I do use a Nice GemOro Duo-View Super dark loupe for looking at GEMS. I never saw the Digital Microscopes prior to purchasing the GemOro. They sure look nice to view and look at coin or item on the computer screen. Any comments appreciate and thanks.

What price range are you thinking of? High end would be Dino-Lite and there are a bunch of lower priced ones out there. John1

The $26 200x Mambate is a really good USB cam, especially for the money. Theres a whole topic about them in the photoagraphy section and the OP has amazing pics with it. I've never owned a Dino-Lite but the Mambate is identical in design, controls and everything else, I don't believe the Dino takes pictures that much if any better to justify spending around $100 opposed to $26 (though I very well could be wrong). I just think for $26 the Mambate takes amazing pics. Here's a few I took with my Mambate (I've only had it 4 months or so so they could be better).. Full view of 1826 half (I need to buy a led light, my fluorescent desk lamp is horrible!)- 1853/4 A&R quarter zoomed into the design- Close up of date- Doubling on arrow and post of the 4 through the upper loop through the middle point of the 3-

It depends on your objectives and eye pieces. I can capture cents with mine, which is what I study and suits my purposes. But those buying Dino-Lites and pen microscopes are not trying to capture the whole coin, anyway. A good digital point and shoot camera on macro settings can turn up awesome results when you are shooting with 16MP, 20MP or more.

One frustrating thing with my Celestron USB microscope is the lack of ability to control light. Most of the time for still photos the light of 8 LEds seems to be too strong.

plonker - Right. And what you want is a single light source to make the shadows work for you. RPDs, RPMs, DDs, etc are hard to see when you have light shining from all angles. Often times on IHCs, you won't notice an RPD from a certain light angle, but if you turn the coin it pops out and slaps you in the eyeballs.

I have a Celestron and I had to put caps on all but one of the LED's and then I put a filter on that LED.Helped a lot. John1

I sell microscopes which have controllable light levels through the software. Some microscopes with integrated LEDs have the brightness control buried in the software that comes with it, the documentation on some I've tried is really insufficient and had to poke around for a while to find the light control.

I agree with NathanASE ...I have a Dino-scope and I like it a lot. But none of em are easy to work with without proper lighting and that will be your biggest problem to solve. Have fun.

Not the smartest thing to make one's first post at Coin Community a plug for some product from an unknown seller. Tends to also be one's last post at Coin Community.

I bought a Dino-Lite with a light box at last winter's FUN Show in Orlando and I am very pleased with it. I bought the 1.5mp model that allows you to turn off the LED lights.
The pictures aren't perfect but they are darn close. And for someone without any camera skills, or the inclination to learn it was an acceptable, if somewhat expensive coin-imaging solution....
