Soo, I bought some double seal coin tubes from Air-Tite.com website.

The tubes arrive, 3 of them look fine, but 2 of the tubes have this slightly cracked hole in between the 2 seals, here's a pic:

Coin-Tubes-With-Holes,-Told-As-'Feature'--Is-This-A-Joke?

So I'm thinking ok, guess thats a fault right? So I contact air-tite and this was the guys response:

""Thanks for writing. The small hole in the caps is there as an air vent, so that the cap will close all the way onto the tube.
Without this vent the air pressure inside the tube would likely cause the cap to pop back off of the tube, or at least prevent the top seal from seating properly.
The double locking seals are not meant to be double air seals. One seal (the top one) is indeed an air seal, but the bottom seal is put there as an extra security measure to help keep the lid in place in case the tube is dropped
or otherwise mishandled.""

And I'm sat here thinking... is that actually supposed to be like that?

Firstly, the holes look like accidental cracks, not deliberate machine holes. Secondly, if thats intentional, why dont ALL the coin tubes I ordered have the hole? Why are 3 of the tubes absolutely fine with no hole defects on the lids at all?

Not sure what to make of this. As for his lid popping off excuse, all the coin tube lids closed absolutely fine, no pressure issues at all. In fact the ones without the hole closer better and more securely.

Anyways I wrote back to him and asked if that was true, does that mean the ones they sent me that don't have a hole are faulty?

There is no way that molding defect is by design. It is trapped gas due to plugged or improper venting in the tooling.

*EDIT*

Update

Ok the head of the company got back to me and said that it was not their intention to mislead at all. That in fact they deliberately punch holes into some of them as they create too much pressure and wont seal properly without it.

I guess I can kinda understand that, although it still doesn't change the fact that those ones I have that do have a hole, the cap feels very lose sliding on and off, and the ones without the hole seal very tight having 2 seals to stop the air movement.

But I fully apreciate him taking the time to respond back to me and he also gave me a refund, so I'm satisfied with the outcome.

That comment that they punch holes in "some of them" has me scratching my head.
