Thanks for the responses. Dave H said it looked like a plating job gone bad. Which probably makes the most sense. Although I do not know why any one would want to plate a dime. I took a loop to it and looked it all over and there is not one sharp cut or any type of sharp damage to it. That is why I posted it hear because from a distance it looks like it was thrown in a mulcher but under a loop it looks like either it had bubbled from the inside out maybe do to heat or someone had dribbled another dime melted down on top of it. The bubbles have the same shade and texture as the rest of the dime. On the date for example you can see the 1 then it is just a raised bubble over the rest of it. So I can not tell what year it is. Also under the loop it almost looks like he has two different chin lines.
But like buddy said my grandpa thinks it is neat and it was a nice thing for us to research it together.
