Hi I am new to this. I was going through some stuff with my grandfather and he pulled this dime out of a keep sake pox he had. He said he does not know why he has kept it but he has for years. This looks like it has been eaten by wood chipper. I collect cards so I took my loop to it and it looks there are blobs all over the coin. It is almost unreadable. They look smooth like it was minted this way. I can not see any sharp cuts or damage to it. It just looks like everything is smoothly running together. Even the on the edges. Thanks for your help!

flagent, to the CCF. w/ Zack that it's post mint damage. Possible a plating job gone terribly wrong, or maybe solder?

Looks like a parking lot find. But whatever it is, it not a collectable.
Rest in Peace

You posted that it was smooth and I think a parking lot coin would have sharp cuts in it so I will say it was most likely exposed to high heat.

If your grandfather likes it, he should keep it. It hold no premium value however.

I found a clipped LMC when I was a kid and I kept it. While that coin does carry a small premium, I didn't know that for the 40 years I had it. I just like it. So I say, keep/collect whatever you like.

Thanks for the responses. Dave H said it looked like a plating job gone bad. Which probably makes the most sense. Although I do not know why any one would want to plate a dime. I took a loop to it and looked it all over and there is not one sharp cut or any type of sharp damage to it. That is why I posted it hear because from a distance it looks like it was thrown in a mulcher but under a loop it looks like either it had bubbled from the inside out maybe do to heat or someone had dribbled another dime melted down on top of it. The bubbles have the same shade and texture as the rest of the dime. On the date for example you can see the 1 then it is just a raised bubble over the rest of it. So I can not tell what year it is. Also under the loop it almost looks like he has two different chin lines.

But like buddy said my grandpa thinks it is neat and it was a nice thing for us to research it together.

Thanks for all of the input!
