First time poster here, thought that I'd post the results of my purchase of 5000 unsearched (haha, yeah right) wheat pennies. I bought them to help my son fill out his Wheat penny folder and no other reason, and it worked very well for that. The results:

1909 to 1919 coins - probably 100 to 150 of them, some mint marks like 1915d, 1913d, etc

1920 to 1929 coins - probably 100 to 150 of them, some mint marks

1930 to 1939 coins - probably 300 to 400 of them, very few mint marks

Everything else was 1940 and above. The strange thing is that there was one date that was strangely missing from the bag, 1945-d. How is it possible that there wasn't a single one of those in there, when there was like 30 to 40 of almost all the other coins?

All in all, was a lot of fun with my son, and that's all that really mattered in this. Now for the question...what the heck do I do with this bag of around 4000 wheat pennies that I don't need? :) I have no use for them anymore, just put them on ebay for $150? Thanks

I had once 6000 wheat cents that I had plucked from circulation and two large coffee cans filled with memorial cents. It was too much volume to keep in my safety deposit box then and all were lost to a home invasion back in the 90's.

My gatherings since are in a box that is close to 10lbs, each found in some way and put into the box. Wheat cents are the only circulation finds I have had in the past two years.

I buy a lot of 5000 count wheat bags. The best ones out there are from dealers that take them in from the public and just count them and bag them. I have 2 dealers currently that are producing many semi keys per bag. I have also got junk from others which I don't buy from again. If you have any local dealers ask them what they do with theirs. Larger volume dealers don't have time to search them or want topay some one to do it.

You actually have a lot more than you advertised. There's probably a myriad of RPM's and inverted MM varieties to be found in that bag. I go through 10000 a month and find a lot of these and then flip them online for a nice profit.

I have gotten 3 1909 VDB DDO's and a 1917 DDO.

What are RPM's (and DDO's)? I'm just getting back into the hobby after 25 years (yes, 25 years...last coin I bought before this was probably 1988 when I was a kid) so I'm very out of touch with all of the new terminology that's floating around here. There are inverted MM's on some of the pennies? Is this common? Never heard of it before now. I found like 2 mint marks going through the bag that looked strange so I kept them, one where it looks like a possible D over S, and one where the D is crooked (like at a slight angle downward). Strangely both on 1944 pennies if I remember correctly.

I posted a picture of one of the possible error coins here:

Not sure what's going on with it though.
