Hello all - I just received a 5 Star General 3 coin proof set from the mint. This is a major purchase for me because of the cost.

Much to my chagrin the gold 5 dollar coin has some serious scratches on the reverse. You can see them with your eye and under a loom it is terrible. It looks as if it was dragged. Here is my novice question; Do I keep it or do I call the mint and get a replacement?

What do I do? Many thanks in advance

I appreciate the response - I never quite understand the "frenzy" over error and mistakes and just genuinely want to do the right thing.

What you've described is more "damage" than "error." Collectors wouldn't pay a premium for a damaged coin.

Is there any chance the scratches you are seeing are on the coin's plastic capsule rather than the coin itself? I've received scratched capsules from time to time, so I know it does happen.

Good luck!
