Hi Nohope

It is either a lamination error or the coin was struck thru scrap.

I would need to have a better look around the edges to know for sure which .

My gut says struck through scrap due to the raised irregular shape of the area.

Its not a lamination as the area is raised.
So where does struck through scrap fall on the big scheme of the desirability scale. To me its just interesting...

to someone who collects these type of coins , it may be worth a couple of bucks,, and that is based on finding the coin interesting ,,

If it helps I do not know how common these are on the canadian cents , its the first Ive seen. but I do not look through alot of canadian cents either .

I was thinking the same thing, as there appears to be some of the original luster were this glob is.

It's glue. The details under the glue are shiny, so the glue was placed on the coin, then the coin was placed into circulation until it turned brown.

From the shadows on the coin and the lighting in the photo, it's obviously raised. Not a struck through or a lamination - both would be sunken in on the coin.
