I've had this one for a few years and have struggled with the grade. I know what I want it to be. Now I can see what others see it as.

Tough one. It kind of looks like a weak strike to begin with, so the level of wear might be deceptive. There's too much ear detail for the clasp, and too little shield wear for the wings.
F12-F15 on coarse detail, but I'm thinking VF20-25 is probably closer to the truth.

I have a feeling it would come back from PCGS in an F-12 to F-15 holder but I think it would fetch VF money due to its original surfaces and eye appeal. I've just never felt comfortable with labeling this thing VF. Although, it really doesn't matter. Been collecting since I was 10 and have never sold a coin yet. I am pushing 40 now. I know, I know, I'm a hoarder (only when it comes to coins). My wife reminds me every day.

SsuperDdave, my wife gets tired of the" paraphernalia" scattered all over the house. 2x2's, sharpies, stapler, special pliers to mash the staples flat, books, books, books, coins, coins, coins. I always like to tell her that when I kick the bucket, she will be the one that has to get a booth at the coin show and sell it all. She doesn't see the irony or humor though. Heeheehee! That's ok, because I do.

This could go F-15 or VF-20 depending on what kind of day the grader was having.

i think F15 is too conservative on this
I agree now after some auction archival research that my VF30 is pushing the envelope perhaps but VF25 is not pushing hard.
as for wives and kids and coins, well, ironically humorous is correct because I too am 40 and man alive my whole family is going to be heated at me when they realize all of the work they are going to have to do to sell the collection off. All I can do is leave documentation. I actually handed my wife one of Mom Sue's biz cards and stated "If I get hit in the head by a meteor tomorrow call this woman and tell her your a widow with kids who needs to hock this collection." best thing I could think of...
