Is a little weird. I have not heard of seen this yet but the pictures are clearly not for a CP catalogue. Maybe someone else can give more information but I have not heard of it on here yet. I found this on Canadian Coin and Currency http://www.cdncoin.com/product-p/623932045835.htm

I have seen this happen a few times before....one or more dealers will have an advanced preview of a new coin...it will show up on the mints web site in a short time from now...It's just something the mint does to keep us interested....

Asked earlier in the May release thread but I'll try again...
"The description says it's the latest in the series. When were the other coins in the series issued?
Dunno why the Mint is not selling this one."

I mentioned this coin in another thread though I can't recall which one. I remember commenting about my disappointment that this coin wasn't for offer. After seeing it on paper as part of the May release, I also thought it would be up for sale this month. Perhaps they're pushing it back to a June release like the 100 for 100 bison coin.
Personally, I think the coin is fantastic.
I don't think this is the latest in a series. Maybe a first? I asked my dealer about it and he doesn't recall there ever being a coin that looks like this. The only ones with Chinese characters are the Maple of (happiness, peace etc) coins, the square hole coin, and some others that I don't recall at this moment. I had a look through the Charlton vol II and couldn't find anything that looked like this. Maybe "latest in the series" refers to Chinese style coins?

The description in the ebay listing says "Part of the Royal Canadian Mint's annual coin series celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Chinese Canadian community." and not "latest" :-)

Quote: don't think this is the latest in a series. Maybe a first? Could be but if it is, they are really stretching with the description. Cdn Coin & Currency..."The latest offering in the Royal Canadian Mint's annual coin series celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Chinese Canadian community." Both Gatewest and Collectible Coins..."Part of the Royal Canadian Mint's annual coin series celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Chinese Canadian community." CC&C indicates that it's the latest but maybe if really is the first of an annual series. Very confusing

Quote:The latest offering in the Royal Canadian Mint's annual coin series celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Chinese Canadian community. When I first read it, I interpreted this less as a comment about a particular series and more about a new addition to the various series RCM issues each year with a Chinese culture theme. One note about the new coin, the theme of "Blessing of Good Fortune" was used last year (2012) by the RCM for a $150 gold coin (part of series) and a $15 silver coin (part of a series). This year's theme for the same two coins is "Peace." I wonder why they didn't go with the 2013 theme for the new coin? It would have made a more consistent set for those that purchase these coins.

So none of the above. Not part of a series (past or future) and due to be offered at the end of this month by the mint.

On the OP's link. The seller does say it launches May 14th.... It could still pop up at the mint over the next week. Maybe dealers were given the initial jump on this one.

Quote: Yup - part of the next release. Was wondering about this coin when I saw it on GW's site. I like the design too, and will pick up a couple. But I'll bypass the Mint and order them from GW or CA - save a bit on the PST.

I'm also going to pick up a couple. I think they'll make great gifts, particularly wedding gifts or any auspicious occasion.
