I recently purchased an 1840 Farthing but with the rare two prongs on the trident(unknowingly at the time). The 1839 date of the same variety is relatively common in comparison but I have personally only seen a few examples of the 1840. The coin itself is in good fine / about very fine grade and the error is very clear indeed. The thing is that I have only ever seen one for sale and that was many years ago and I can't remember what it sold for. No catalogues seem to list it and I've searched auction house back sale and can't find one selling.
Would anybody here have any idea as to its worth? Many thanks in advance, Jack.
http://www.omnicoin.com/viewcoin/947669 Here is mine. There was another on ebay recently but a few farthing boys were aware. It is a die clash as you can see Vickies profile on the reverse. It took me a long time to get mine.
Hi guys, I might just put it on ebay and find out but then again it took me so long to get one I may hold on to it! Thanks for the information everybody, if anybody sees one for sale then a heads up would be appreciated. Thanks, Jack.
I would keep it...Colin Cooke rated it and with a new farthing published book coming out soon it will be worth keeping.Go to Predecimal.com and you can talk to the boys in the know.
