Does anybody know why this 1997-d LMC, which is in otherwise MS condition, is a different (almost golden or brassy) color? I have placed it on the left of a regularly colored LMC in the picture for comparison. I appreciate any help with this, thank you.

Looks like a keeper. Put it in a 2X2 before you get any finger prints on it. Nice brass look.

Thanks, Coop, I just finished that very thing because it is a very pretty coin. Have you or anyone else in here ever heard of this before? If so, what's the deal? Does this color happen often and I've just missed it?

Ken potter used to sell these. I've found a couple. But not as nice as yours.

Thanks seal006, that explains a lot, he even had used the same basic comparison shot. Well, I've learned something new today, that's for sure. I didn't even know these existed a few hours ago.

Question ? Does the mint plate the planchets/blanks or is the zinc stock delivered already plated ?

There is an outside company that makes the planchet cents for the mint.

The planchets are prepared by Jarden Zinc. They punch the blanks, mill the rims, electroplate the copper, and then ship the final product to the mints. All it takes for brassy plating is a few leftover zinc planchets dissolving in the electroplating bath.
