This is from DirtyOldCoins, from Ras's 'high quality Romans' group. This particular coin didn't have any crud on it and just required a brief soak in distilled water to remove some dust.

RIC188?

Posting these pics at BenByfield's request...

No, I didn't notice that on his site. I've been browsing it on the forvm's site. Is the content the same? Perhaps I should download it...

Yeah it should be the same on Forvm. You can get the full pdf version from dirtyoldbooks for free as well. Note it is books and not coins in the name.

I reckon you can get that better...leave it soaking in olive oil and brush it every once in a while and I think you'll get somemore detail out.

Do you think so? I'll try it.

Seeing these closeups, to me it appears to have already undergone aggressive decrustification at some point in modern time.

I see a little bit of sandy-colored stuff deep in the interstices of the features-- is that the removal goal?

BTW, these pictures are a bit off in color. Got a new camera, need to tweak my photo setup. The flash is harsh even though I diffused the light through a translucent semi-opaque surround + some white fabric. In hand the coin has a nice brown color. Its picture in the 'My first dirties' thread is a truer representation of the color and in-hand look.
