Hi all! Long story short, I am visiting my in-laws out of state, and have been requested to go through and appraise an old coin collection (I'm getting paid, so I want to do the best possible job!)

Problem is, I left my Red Book 5.5 hours away. I know of sites like (124) Not Allowed - Auto-Removed to check the lump value of the junk silver, and I can look up the mintage figures to pick out the key dates from the junk, but are there any websites that list approximate values of the coins, preferably dynamically adjusted for silver spot?

Also, to make all of you drool, this isn't a "What are these 1958 wheat pennies worth?" scenario. By a quick estimate, this is roughly $100-150 face of silver, the vast majority of which is Morgans and Mercs. A quick glance reveals that at least two Morgans are BU. I was also told that I can keep some of the coins as payment!

Thanks to everyone in advance!

NumisMedia is easy to navigate and it's free. Pretty sure it's where NGC pulls their values from.

Tbone is correct. Another site to help with grading is
http://www.pcgs.com/Photograde/ Click on Resources then Online Photograde
PCGS is top notch in grading!
I have been in your situation before "with no time". Take pictures or see if you can take the collection home for further evaluation.
Least case scenario is to explain you are new to coin collecting and would like some time to learn and help them also learn the value.
Rest in Peace

Finn, let me also say that most people really do not know what the have. Sure you can give the silver value which is low today or going higher tomorrow who knows but. what about the BU Morgans price.
Tell the truth and feel good about it! Hope it works out.

Sorry for the bump!

I initially thought that I was merely being hired to appraise the collection, but once talk came up about "Ca$h 4 Gold" stores, I volunteered to make sure all of these coins find a good home.

All in all, this was a good sampling of common date silvers:

45 Morgans, mostly circulated and common dates with a few AU coins and a couple low-mintage years (1903-S)
29 Peace, again mostly circulated common dates, with 2 heavily circulated 1934-S's.
23 Walkers, all heavily circulated and common dates
17 Franklins, all common dates
20 Heavily tones '64 halves
33 Silver Washington quarters plus a few Barbers and Standing Liberty (no rare dates)
23 Barber dimes, all heavily worn and common dates
About 300 Merc dimes, mostly circulated common-date junk
84 circulated common-date Roosies
One full roll of BU 1960-P Roosies

Going by RedBook and ebay bidding histories, the whole collection ought to sell for about $4,000.

The owner's widow wants to get the collection sold as quickly as possible, so I'm looking at my options in terms of selling.

Any suggestions? I stopped by a local coin shop, and the owner offered about $20 per silver dollar. That's a bit lower than I was looking for, but I also don't want to spend years trying to sell these through ebay. Plus, it's not my money and the few Morgans that are in 2x2's indicate that he paid about $10 per coin.

Also, I would post this here under "to sell", but two years of lurking has left me about 200 posts short of being able to list. Not breaking any forum rules or anything, but if anyone were to (hypothetically) make an offer via PM, I'd be more than inclined to consider ;)

Hi Finn, I don't see a PM on your profile. Want to ask you some questions about some of the dollar coins.

Not sure if this breaks any forum rules. If it doth, admins, I quoth the raven: 'nevermore'
