Check out this coin. It's so rare they didn't even mint them! 171121264763But that doesn't keep people from bidding on it. Ben ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!

I sorta feel bad for whoever wins that considering that it's not even a legit coin.

I reported it to ebay as a counterfeit coin. To report coins on ebay go to ebay.com/ccw for a quick way to file a complaint.

You could see the join marks on the obverse edge, so it was no doubt it was fake, but WHY would you fake a coin that was never minted? Ben

Quote: WHY would you fake a coin that was never minted? Ask Daniel Carr of the Moonlight Mint. I guess if you fake a coin for a date that was never actually produced you can justify it to yourself by claiming you are only making a "fantasy" piece instead of an actual counterfeit. Because any knowledgeable collector will of course know that the coin was never minted for that particular year and therefore nobody is being fooled (or, at least, anybody who is fooled deserves to be fooled since they didn't do enough research before buying). Or so the logic seems to go...

I think the seller may have thought he had a real Carson City Morgan and didn't think about the dates that CC didn't mint coins in 1986, 1987 and 1988. I like to give a seller at least one chance. But if he tries anything fishy again, he's just trying to rip off buyers. Quote: Now that is a rare population. Yeah, 0 in grade with 0 higher or lower. Ben

I've posted this before, you have to learn to discern between when the "CC" means Carson City and when it stands for Chinese Counterfeit. A few years back I contacted a Chinese seller on ebay about group of fake Morgan dollars and he offered to make me a complete date set 1878-1904 all mint marked CC if I wanted them. And I could choose between base metal at $3 a coin and 90% silver at $5 a coin plus the cost of the silver. I passed but always thought that would make an interesting display.
