What is your favorite type of penny? What type of pennies should I be collecting?

Whatever is your favorite. Everyone is going to collect what they what. I prefer Canadian large cents but that's just me. Good luck on deciding what to chose.

Well the correct name is cent for U.S. coins. But we all have been guilty of that. You can sort through boxes of cents for $25 from the bank. That would be the cheapest way for Lincoln Cents. Actually all of them are my favorites but I am partial to the Wheat Cents 1909 to 1958. My advice collect what you like;get yourself a decent book on Cents and decide then on what you want to collect. Good Luck.

My favorite is the Large cent/penny whether it be U.S., Canadian, Australian, or British. I want them all.

Some people collect varieties...some people errors....Some people even collect a Low Ball set...trying to get a set of all low grades. There are toned coins....I would say find something you like to collect. Who cares what everyone else is collecting.

What should you collect? Simple: stare at pictures of coins on the internet until one type starts pulling you toward it, the figure out if you can afford to buy examples in grade you like (pcgs.com/photograde and numismedia.com)

My favorite type of penny is British. Pretty much all of the other ones are actually cents
Seriously: no idea. LMC is boring, and everything else is either far too short or has too many key dates. I'd say Braided Hair large cents (from 1839-1857) would be my favorite type so far (especially the early Petite Head ones from 1839-1843); and there's no awful keys (1857 is the closest to being one - Numismedia puts it at $138 in VF-20, while the highest of the rest is 1841 at $55).
Then again, I'm the sort of person who would gladly collect lowballs if he could afford them; my 1841 cent is the only 19th-century US coin in my collection that isn't of very low grade (paid $35 for it - well under Numismedia value - but it has a slight rim ding that might give it a Details grade if it was ever slabbed).

I like all US cents. You should collect whatever kind you like for yourself.

I'd try a Canadian cents set. Why? Because finding any date would be an achievement in your location, there are only four non-variety key dates (all in the 1920s), and there are a few varieties to look out for (the 2006-P is pretty rare, but luckily it's the only mintmarked rarity that's not considered an error in the set). Plus all we have is dates, so you won't need three marks for every year. The only exception are a few composition marks from 1999 to 2006, but you'll be finding plenty of those newer dates so it shouldn't be difficult.

This is why I'm working on an American cents from Canadian circulation set - it probably won't ever be complete, but it's always fun to find a "different" penny than I'm used to.

- Also: our 1-cent piece was called the "penny" until its demise, probably because we're still a member of the Commonwealth. The RCM even did a special commemorative line in 2012 - "Farewell to the Penny"...

I enjoy wheat pennies, especially when I find them in change.

I also like pre-1800 large cents, because you can own them without spending a fortune.

What is your favorite type of penny?

My favorite cent is the Draped Bust 1796 to 1807. I collect them by die variety. Problem is I have 184 of the 187 Sheldon numbered varieties. I also have four of the NC (non-collectible) varieties.

My favorite cent is the next one I'm looking for. Right now it's a 2008 D. Some day one will show up in change.

I collect them all but my passion is the u.s. large cent. They have character history and suspense as there were so many die changes and errors. Condor...you da man. Your collection must be awesome. Have you ever posted them here?

My favorite cent is the US Indian head. Back in the day they could be found in circulation like wheat cents today. They are relatively inexpensive and span 50 years of history.
