Picked up the last coin at the local coin show today to complete my Lincoln Cent collection that was started 48 years ago. what a great feeling it was to place the 1910S in the album.

CONGRADULLLLLLLLLLLATIONS. Now I have a question. Does your completed set contain the so called numerous, popularized error coins such as the famous 22 plain? What about all the proofs? Do you have the 55, 72, 95 Doubled Dies? All 20 of the 2009's? Small and large dated ones like the 70S, 82's, etc? Always a problem with that coin trying to figure out what is complete set or not.

Oh come on carl, don't make it so complicated.
Myself, I have one Wheatie to go (I just picked up a nice 1914D) and I don't count the common errors to be part of the set. (Although I would like to add them to my set at some point.)

Congrats!
How long ago did you pick up the 1909S VDB, the 1914-D and the 1922 (Plain)?

Congrats on completing your set.
I am five away from finishing my set or 6 if you count the 1922 Plain as being needed to complete the set.

I saw that 1910-s in the grading forum, if the rest of the set is anything like that, all I can say is WOW. Congrats

Ok...first, let me thank everyone for the congrats. since there are no other collectors in my family, this is now my coin family, together for the joy these bring to us it is nice to have an outlet to share that enjoyment.
on to the set. I need a couple days to put pics together, I dont have a good camera. the pic's I have posted were from purchases that already had them. I promise I'll post them.
next, let me cover a couple questions from the forum.
My album started in the early 60's using the old blue flip fold. I think sometime in the early 70's I purchased the blue whitman album with the slides that were very popular then. the album goes from 1909 through 1940. I never felt the need to collect any of the newer coins. I have a fold album for 1941 through I think 68 but havent even looked at it since 1968, not sure why. they just never interested me.
As a paperboy in the 60's, I found almost all of the coins in change from customers. the exceptions were 09S, 09Svbd, 14d and 31S. I even found a 24D. its actually a nice example grading in at VF20. So all of those were circulated and I never felt the need to upgrade them based on how I found them they meant more to me to not replace them. not many folks can say that they found that many in circulation.
the first key I bought was the 09S, its in VF35 condition and I paid $35 for it. The next was the 31S in EF40, I dont have it recorded but I think I paid around $20 for in the late 60's. next up was the 09Svdb grading at EF40 I paid $100 for it around 1970 or 71. I got married in 1974 and all the coins were shelved for many years. I became interested again in January 2011, at that time my attention was on half and large cents, which are my passion today.
I kept looking at the old Lincoln set and the holes were bothering me so I decided to complete it Since the only remaining key was the 14D and the 10S and 12S were still open...not sure why. First up the 12S. Picked up an EF40 example in March this year for $58. Acquired the 14D VF25 in April for $240 (a steal, this is real nice coin), then the 10S yesterday in EF40 which I paid $35 for.
although the book contains a slot for the 22Plain, I don't consider a standard issue and most likely won't go for it unless I get a big itch do so, i'd rather buy a nice old copper, maybe a 1794 Large to go into my type set. I was never into error coins. I think most collectors would consider the set complete without it.
upstate, I was unable to secure that 10S I posted. it was sweet but went for way more than I wanted to pay so I had to settle for the EF40 version of one.
I will attempt to get pics ASAP and post for everyone.
