My first ever US Gold. I think I got lucky on the price.

I paid $310 for this coin, did I do well? I'd like to say it looks EF but it has lots of surface hits to the fields and the relief and I have no clue how to grade these properly

tx for any help

I would guess XF40 Details as the coins surface does show imperfections. I would also suspect old cleaning, and as far as pricing $310 is not bad at all for this piece IMO.

Here's a good like for PCGS Photograde on this type. It will help you judge the grading aspect. http://www.pcgs.com/photograde/#/2.5Lib/Grades

Should have no problem making XF40. The price is good for an early $2.50 Lib in decent shape. There are no signs of a harsh cleaning and I feel pretty sure it would holder problem-free. Compare it to this NGC VF35 piece that went for $345 on Heritage a couple years ago: http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?hdnJu...4381&x=0&y=0

I like it at VF35 could go EF40 just as easily. Gold is graded a bit easier than other coins by TPGs in general.
